Who is going to the AAA's next months in San Francisco ?

I'm just curious because it would be nice to meet some of you in real life :)

Hi Valerie,

I'm surprised no-one has replied to this (or at least not replied in the open forum). People seem reluctant to talk about conferences unless they are participating and have an interest in promoting the event. Unfortunately I won't be able to make it this year so I'm no use to you, but I'd be interested in hearing which discussions or panels you're hoping to attend.

Like Nathan, I won't be there. It has been nearly twenty years since I attended my last one. As a self-supporting independent scholar I have know interest in the meat market side of the AAA and find smaller, more specialized conferences far better value intellectually speaking. My current roster includes the annual Sunbelt Conference of the International Network for Social Network Analysis (ISNSA) and fall and spring workshops put on by the Anthropology of Japan in Japan group (AJJ) and, most recently, my first business anthropology conference in China last May, organized by Robert Guang Tian. I am looking forward to the next one in Shanghai next May. Had I all the time and money in the world I would also have attended this year's Ethnographic Praxis in Corporations (EPIC) conference in Savannah. The Tokyo EPIC in 2010 was fascinating. The AAA? Too much, too shallow, essential if you are networking in search of a job. Otherwise, no thanks.

Greetings. I will be attending the AAA - mainly because it's in SF this year. Meeting people from the Open Anthro Co-Op is an excellent idea.

Here are links to the two panels I participate in:

Darn it, your stuff was on Student Saturday and I was as busy as a bee as I'm on http://www.studentanthropologists.org/ so I wasn't able to attend but that second topic is really interesting! Do you have a link to your work anywhere online?

Awww, shucks!

I wish I'd seen your post before flying out.

Had all kinds of neat tweetups and stuff in San Fran.

Maybe next time?
