II'm an old hand who dabbled in this field way back and am not intouch with the literature.but fi was familiar with Abu-Lughod and since you have mentioned Michelle R let me refer to her husband RENATO ROSALDO's Culture and Truth.
at the risk of self-advertisement you may be ineterested in my "agony and ecstacy of a pogrom" in Roberts, EXPLORING CONFRONTATION (Reading, Harwood, 1994) -- a literary piece in a way and recently translated into Tamil. This in turn led to 1993b "Emotion and the Person in Nationalist Studies" in Japanese in The Shinso, Jan. 1993. (Special edition on Nationalism Today ed. by T. Aoki), pp. 127-50..

Hi.I second to that. I've been following the idea of subjectivism which in my mind connected to a lot of emotions in terms of experience versus expression in the Dilthean hermeneutics. Besides Abu-Lughod, with her Bedouin, I also found Michelle Rosaldo very appealing to understand the place of emotions in relations to transformation and continuity. Hope to hear more of your ideas.

Well said about universality of emotions! Yes Geertzian influence helps all among us who have tried to study emotions across cultures. I have recently completed my doctoral thesis 'A Comparative study of experienced shame between a Hindu North Indian woman and a Catholic woman from South West France'. Well, I must say initially it was difficult but gradually I got hold of cultural and linguistic nuances and could see the relevance of Geertzian TRUTH!
Lila Abu-Lughod too has interesting things to say about anthropology of emotions. However, I must add that each culture, class and community has its own ways to negotiate with the rigid structures and the said and unsaid cultural codes. That's the job of an anthropologist to find the spaces and the ways in which people in different cultures negotiate with rigid cultural codes and structures in 'every day life' to give a coherent meaning to the life and world surrounding them.To be continued...further
