as some of you will know, the Tourism-Contact-Culture Research Network will organise a conference (Tourism and Seductions of Difference) in Lisbon, 10-12 Sept 2010, as a joint venture between CRIA, the Centre for Tourism and Cultural Change (CTCC, Leeds) and the Tourism-Contact-Culture Research Network.
The rooms are booked, the CFP has been distributed internationally and the first abstracts are coming in.
I would like this event to be owned by the members of this network and also by scholars working in the Lisboa area (members to be seduced by it, to consume and digest it, to become it) and therefore invite anyone interested to an information meeting on 12 February, 4pm, at the 1st floor cafe of the military baracks next to the FCSH campus in Avenida de Berna, Lisboa (the building where CRIA is housed in Nova).
The aim of this is to outline the philosophy and aims of the event, identify tasks for, and constitute, a local organising committee which will get involved in the management of different academic, promotional and social parts of the event.
I would also kindly ask all of you to distribute this information and the attached CFP within your networks and through your mailing lists.
This promises to become a very good event, very much perpetuating the philosophy of those I previously organised in England and in conjunction with universities in other European cities. The goal here is to let the formal academic part of paper presentations flow into a social part where people can discuss and share their ideas in a less formal setting.
Please refer anyone interested to the website I have created for this event: (http://sites.google.com/site/tourismcontactculture/
Kind regards and looking forward to seeing you this week
