Dear Chelsea!
Great topic! We could perhaps discuss some more on language ideologies and social difference. I am working at the Max Planck Institute for Social Anthropology, and I am currently trying to finish my Ph.D on, to put it short, linguistic conflict in Belgium. In the last part of my dissertation I describe the different language ideologies (French and Dutch, German was not part of my research) in discourse (metadiscourse, metapragmatics), practice and how it influences the linguistic conflict and ideas about group identification. I would love to know how language ideologies feature in your research?...

Welcome everyone!

To start the introductions: I'm finishing up my PhD at Rutgers University. I've been working in Nepal and Darjeeling, India since my time in Nepal as a Peace Corps volunteer.

My dissertation focuses on the Nepali language movement in India, language ideologies, and the production of social difference.
