There hasnt been much discussion here yet and I am wondering whether anyone here is already well read on anthropology of masculinity or other theories of masculinity. Any recommendations?

It is a few years old now, but Masculinities Matter:!:+men,+gender,+and+development&hl=en&ei=dQ21TsrbOsyChQep-pmPBA&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=1&ved=0CC8Q6AEwAA#v=onepage&q&f=false

Is still pretty useful.

I'm by no means 'well read' on the subject, but Raewyn Connell ( is perhaps the most famous theorist on masculinity.  There is also Caroline & Filippo Osella's book on Masculinities in South Asia (Caroline Osella is doing quite wonderful stuff on masculinity).
