I just found this rich discussion thread and very much enjoyed reading the various posts. I just wanted to let you all know that the Group for Debates in Anthropological Theory (GDAT) is very much an annual fixture in Manchester again. The 2008 debate 'Ontology is just another word for culture' has been published in the latest issue of Critique of Anthropology (June 2010, 30 (2)).

The 2009 debate 'The anthropological fixation with reciprocity leaves no room for love' will also be published in Critique as soon as I finish writing the Introduction and editing the discussion. If you would like to see it, do email me at soumhya.venkatesan@manchester.ac.uk

The motion for the 2010 debate is 'The task of anthropology is to invent relations'. The date is the 6th of November from 2pm at Manchester. Anyone who wishes to attend is more than welcome. I'll post full details very soon (as soon as i finalise them).

I am forever on the lookout for promising motions. So, if anyone has any burning issues they would like to discuss or any contentious statements they would like to have tabled, please email me. Again, the email address is soumhya.venkatesan@manchester.ac.uk

Thanks for this information Soumhya. We look forward to hearing more about the ideas and the participants; and to members of OAC continuing the debate here after the Manchester event.
