Hi all, I wonder if anyone has suggestions for a good, accessible and recent anthropological critique of popular functionalisms? I continue to be amazed at the compulsive nature of functionalist explanations for undergrads, so that even after weeks of immersion in the Boasians, they resort to knee-jerk explanations based on universal biological and/or social "needs". I would love a recent piece that really addresses functionalisms' profound hold on popular imaginations with reference to specific events, mass media, punditry, etc.
