Me Myself and I
After graduation from the University of Cologne with a thesis on ethnomusicology’s fear and loathing of popular music I decided to embark on a PhD project which would merge my academic training up to then – ethnomusicology, social anthropology and theatre, film & tv studies. Combined with a regional interest for the post-soviet space this background brought me to Tashkent to research popular music and politics in Uzbekistan. Having finished fieldwork last year, I am now in the process of writing.
Since 2006 I am affiliated with the department for ethnomusicology at the University for Music and Drama in Hanover, Germany. Currently, however, I work exterritorially at the anthropological department of Unicamp in Brazil. As a visiting scholar my task is to further cooperation between Germany and Brazil in the field of ethnomusicology/anthropology of music. Apart from this official mission I am, of course, personally curious about Brazil – in and out of academia.
