From Obscure to Front Page: Middle East

When I first studied anthropology related to the Middle East (and this dates me), it was hard to find anthropologists who had actually been there. Once you did find one, you hung on, trying to soak uo as much information as you could. Most anthropological work at that time were kinship studies and the rare ethnography.
