Klaus Rominger replied to Chelsea Hayman's discussion Could Sahlins's Affluent Society thesis be deployed to disprove Polanyi's Disembedded Economy thesis?

Klaus Rominger replied to muyekho barasa's discussion Future of Anthropology in Africa

Point taken. On the one hand, You are right that a pious evocation of anthropology as a potential source of social glue for a world falling apart will not do by itself. I trace an "anthropology of unequal society" back to Rousseau via Morgan and Engels and more recent anthropologists like Goody and Wolf. Rousseau had several bites at the cherry including positive treatises on politics and education. I am really only saying that anthropology might raise its sights to addressing humanity as a whole for a change. But that will not be enough by itself.
