I can't comment on why the others are so economistic, but for me economy and religion are closely connected. Max Weber saw medieval monasteries as forerunners of capitalism. Premodern Christianity spawned a number of institutions with strong economic functions. Same with Islam, Buddhism etc. I have published an article on money as a form of religious life. I just gaveconomic anthropologists miss a lot if they exc a lecture in Delhi which linked Gandhi's religious politics to economic life. So yes, economic anthropologists miss a lot if they exclude religion.
