I am going to attend the Soc for Cul Anth meetings in Santa Fe this May, but am not reading anything concerning art or film. You probably know some of my biases and rants on the latter. Thank you Mylene for inviting me. Although I have never worked in the Americas, for a variety of personal and other reasons I have become interested in the situation of indigenous Mexicans from Oaxaca living and working in California (as agricultural laboruers) especially where they have little knowledge of either Spanish or English, and especially where they have run into difficulties with the law. A long way from your own concerns, I fear!

Maybe we could meet up after La Rentree. I would be interested to know more about your work and those you work with I am glad you opened up a discussion group on art and anthropology. I have been spending time in South Africa with David Szanton who has an extraordinary project involving traditional painters in India and who joined OAC. It would be a good thing if the two of you were in contact.
