Psychologists' generalizations are WEIRD.

Writing on his neuroanthropology blog, Daniel Lende has a terrific post about psychology and cultural differences. (WEIRD=Western, Educated, Industrialized, Rich, and Democratic, i.e., the student subjects, studies of whom are the basis for psychological generalizations about human nature.)

The post is long and requires careful reading but is, IMHO, well worth the effort.
