Excellency in work – "Nafel"

The phrase " Nafel " I use, taking from the world of Muslim mystics fellowship groups ("tariqa" ) that exaggerating in " God's work . This exaggeration may sweep them to the colorful social outcomes that enrich the cultural life and economy and serve as the "glue" of social cohesion.


The "Nafel" means "something else added." If you have to make one prayer, then perform three times. Two prayers are "Nafel". If you have to kneel five times you will make it ten times – The added five are "Nafel".  If fasting during Ramadan the believers will adopt another day fasting, Thursday, or Monday, or sometimes two days together throughout the year, if they need contribute two and a half percent of the income as "Sadaqa", " the believers will contribute 5 percent of its income . And so on.


Therefore, accumulation of capital faster than society does not pass Nafel. Many "Turuq" in Egypt and Turkey can expect delightful phenomena of excellence among members of those groups in many strata: high military officers , university professors, wealthy merchants , exporters and importers who have modest lifestyle and contribute to solidarity groups to which they are associated.


Study of the phenomenon of excellence can be accessed through four scientific cross-disciplines such as sociology , anthropology, religion, theology, economics, morality and knowledge areas more residually sometimes, but in many cases may be used in the field of knowledge as good "explain" for the phenomenon[1].

 

Personality dimension: energy - Ability Data Acquisition (ADHD). Data rocessing capability (understanding and categorization). Data transmission capability (speaking and writing, non-verbal expression). This dimension is taken from the bulk colorful personality theories that have developed over the last two centuries conclusive statements like "has it or he does not".  For this dimension we have objective tests that measure subjects, valid tests, with authenticity, with standard deviations and confidence and authority on statistical concepts adopted by social scientists. But these tests are difficult to explain the phenomenon of the excellence of this or that society.

Cultural dimension: cultural elements that encourage conformity and suppress pioneering, achievement, competition. Conformity, in most cases brings the society/company/group into seclusion and fear of change. Sufi mystics allow competition – The Nafel  is a type of competition. Max Veber Theories have become common knowledge about Calvinists seeking divine grace manifested possessions and capital, and therefore maintain these Christian societies Nafel colorful capital preservation, increasing, presenting only as a divine grace: Be God gets the prayer,  Be God listens to theirs on earth, here and now (as opposed to Catholics preparing "good life" in the other world) .

Ethical dimension / normative : Good / bad standards / outcast . Beautiful/ugly Standards. Improper/proper, dignified and rejected. Across many sequences of justice and morality can be positioned elements that promote values ​​chemosuppressant achievement. Good and bad values ​​may take on and off depending on the social contexts shape and structural . What is good today may be bad tomorrow. Learn Latin, Arabic, Talmud, Bible, German literature - acquiring cultural knowledge as wide as possible was the heart - the soul of the Jewish scholastic nineteenth century and early twentieth century. These departments are closing them one after another in Israeli academia. Who is going to study philosophy. What to do with it? Structural dimension: a supportive environment, environment stifling, restraints than structural, or disconnect cooperation with rubbing causes. Press and Leisure, Civil Security, political regime, and regulatory systems, social institutions, management theories, management practices, implementation of structural elements advocates excellence in economic and social organizations, access to knowledge organization, knowledge retention, compensation methods, appreciation, recognition, promotion of employees, social benefits, status symbols, technological tools, technology, communications and other elements waiting in turn emerge as contribute to the excellence and of encouraging "Nafel donor" to the individual and society alike.

No doubt that in a short essay it is impossible to encapsulate the elements Nafel/excellence since there is also no doubt that "Smart people" will continue to say to us, "Chinese are ambitious , the Japanese as precise as the Germans, the Italians are lazy, Sudanese good stevedores, Eritreans cleanliness, Jordanians great and fine in medicine, Maronites in Lebanon traders giants, Jews good tailoring, East German sports excellence (once), Ukrainians excellent hacking satellites and space, Beit-Ghan Druzes excellent in matriculation - top marks in the country, the Ethiopian 10,000 m runners… Blacks in basketball, Indians Hockey ... Suddenly we learn that excellence is culture -dependent , hanging with , hanging space , depending on social values ​​and ideologies . But most of all, dependent on the structural context: visible components, observed behaviors relations seeking to be discovered by us in every group and organization (indeed there is huge place for scientific research)

Roseman, thank you for introducing us to nafel. To me, it is a new concept, and definitely worth thinking about. I am, however, a bit confused about what you are claiming here. Is it

1. That there is something about nafel missing in all of the psychological, cultural, ethical and structural frames in which we might try to explain it? Or

2. That we could explain it by combining research from these four perspectives?
