Orientalism is such a good introduction to so many key ideas in anthropology and it's easy to read - a beautiful tapestry.
I wonder whether genetics will provoke yet another swing back towards the myth of the clash of civilisations. With all the work being done on genetics, Rabinow and Rose say that medicine could soon be organised according to how your genes make you more or less likely to respond well to certain treatments.
