The first in a series of live music videos from Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.

This features one of the country's first folk-rock bands, Altan Urag. The band plays traditional Mongolian instruments (horse head fiddle, bishguur - horn, yoochin - zither) plus drums. They also feature Khoomi, or throat singing, in several of their tunes.

In this video they're playing a song called "Jalam Khar", which is about a horse race. Throughout you can hear the rhythm of the hooves on the ground, and toward the end of the song, one of the fiddle players mimics a horse whinnying.

Side Note:
I've found it difficult to film in the music venues in Mongolia. While stage lights exist, they seem to rarely be turned on or have working bulbs - hence the REALLY dark video. I tried my best to color correct, but found I was struggling. As always, if you video nerds have any tips for how to improve, I'd love to hear them!

The intro/outro is my first go at Adobe After Effects! I have a feeling I'm going to be spending a lot more time with that program.
